New website

By Andree Toonk | April 29, 2007

Today I officially launched my new website. A nice opportunity to share with you some technical details and to thanks some people. This website is build mostly from scratch using vi! No fancy editors, content management systems, wiki’s or blog packages. The photo album is an existing package which I modified heavily in order to evolve to what it is now. It took quite some time to create what is here today, mostly because my ideas about how the website should look like changed frequently.

At some point I thought it would be nice to create different pages for different countries, that is what I used geo-IP packages for. The flag you see on your left is a result of that. In contradiction to a lot of other websites, this website also supports IPv6 Geo IP. In the future I might want to do more with this feature. My Blog will probably change a little bit also, but just the backend, so that I can use a database and a nice web frontend for editing my blog, maybe even a feature for you (my readers) to add comments.

I would like to use this opportunity also to thank my good friend Roel for his support and feedback when creating this site. Roel is also the designer of the banner/header of this webpage. Roel, Thanks! (I guess I will just need to thank you with a beer right? ;) .

    Hey Andree,

The result looks great. You’ve changed/learned a lot over the past couple of weeks.
With the addition of this blog you’ve completed your site. (If we assume that it can ever be completed enough :))

I was happy to comment and support you with the header. That beer will be more thanks then needed… but I’ll take it anyway! :)

    Cheers and see you soon!
    Happy coding/blogging!
